A friend loaned me his large format 4 x 5 view camera last week. I got some time late afternoon on Friday to shoot a few frames. Nothing like film. I think I may do some portraits in the studio with it soon.
Enjoy some old-school film...☺ Photographed negatives with my full frame digital back and slight curves, dodging and burning in PS.
Too much like fun.
Love to swing...
We did a shoot with model Ryan Zavala in January and came up with some great images. I even shot a roll of Tri-X on my old medium format Mamiya and have included one of those. This is a more intense look that I am experimenting with and have gotten a lot of encouraging comments on.
Here is one of the film images.... still love the film look. I have been doing more lately and will soon do some 4 x 5 portrait work. Stay tuned...
As part of a separate project here are a few preliminary shots for a chocolate assignment...
Theme is importer of chocolate needs some images for their new line of flavors. Hard part was the gold foil and even lighting on a black reflective surface.
We had Liz Bliss and Susan Schrimpf from Jerol Salon in Danville do hair and makeup respectively for a shoot with model Stephanie Williams (Model Mayhem name: BellaAlemania #1856313)
The shoot went well and I feel like we got some great looks for a great model who already has a great portfolio. Thanks to all!
A few photos from a recent model shoot with Holline Chase (Model Mayhem #2112933)
Most of the shoot was a high-key setup with white clothes on a white background. We were very happy to have some different style images to add to her portfolio. Holline was easy to work with, had a great smile and was on time! All the makings of a fun session. Thanks Holline!
It has been quite a while since I have blogged and I have so much to catch up on. I hope to get a few quick blogs together in the next few weeks. We have had a lot of interesting things happening.
Augusta Lee Collins invited Kathi and I to a fundraiser last month at Everett & Jones BBQ at Jack London Square. It is amazing how that country is still so devastated from the disaster. Many of us have no idea what it would be like to live under those circumstances.
Danny Glover happened to be one of the MC's and I got a chance to meet him and take a few photos. It was fun shooting Augusta,...
We had another chance to shoot with Yulia Zakomornya yesterday. This time the theme was a 1940's movie star look. (Yulia's Model Mayhem number is 2360110 if you would like to see more of her work)
For research we looked through Yahoo Images for names like Lauren Bacall. Gene Tierney and Ava Gardner. We also found a great site for photos and fashions from that time (1940s.org). It is fun to look back at how different the photography of movie stars was then. What a fun era.
So Kathi found a Jessica McClintock evening dress at a thrift shop along with a broach that would look the part...
It is funny how we get stuck in certain mindsets sometimes. It is easy to keep following the same path every day and wear in the ground we cover like deep ruts in a dirt road.
Sometimes we hear or see things that make us reconsider our paradigm. Things that go deep into our hearts and cause us to rethink what we are doing.
I have been reading the Art of Photography by Bruce Barnbaum. It is a wonderful book that delves deeper into photography and promises to really challenge me to get better with my art. In the section on composition he quotes Edward Weston who said that the best composition...
