I had a good fortune last week to be able to make some time for both hanging with my mentor Don Giannatti, and two other photographer friends while adding to my portfolio.
Don Giannatti decided to do a road trip from his home in Phoenix, traveling across the desert and heading up the coast from Ventura to north of Santa Cruz. The expressed purpose was to get some new work for his portfolio. When I found out I was invited to meet up with him I jumped at the chance. Don has been my mentor for the last couple years and has helped me tremendously with this crazy business called commercial photography.
So my buddy Nick Giron and I headed down last Saturday morning, picked up a model in Capitola and caught up with Don and 4 other models in San Luis Obisbo. Sunday night I was back home and headed back Monday morning to Capitola to meet up with Hiram Chee, Don and the models. All in all we covered a lot of ground and shot a lot of frames. Even though some of the models had little or no experience they did great and braved sun, fog and wind to make for some great images.
It is amazing how different the four of us are in how we shoot, places we pick and how we approach our art. In the end, I was honored to work with them all. They are all fantastic artists and even better friends!
Here are a few of my favs from the 4 days (in no specific order). I setup a gallery for a bunch of these if you are interested in some of the other takes. This was a big departure from my previous work and I experimented a lot during the trip with natural light and mixed. So good to clear the head and be creative! Will be doing a lot more of these.
